La Semana del Estudiante –con la asombrosa marcha del día 25 de setiembre- significó la irrupción de la "generación del silencio" en un país en el que la transición a la democracia se demoraba aunque pareciera inevitable.
“Por una enseñanza democrática”, los estudiantes agrupados en la Asociación Social y Cultural de Estudiantes de Educación Pública (ASCEEP) desarrollan una semana de actividades de todo tipo, jalonadas por el lleno total del Palacio Peñarol (el 19 de setiembre) y el masiva marcha desde la Explanada de la Universidad al Estadio Luis Franzini. Para autorizarla las autoridades ponen una serie de condiciones. Entre ellas, una que los estudiantes respetaron a rajatabla: “prohibido pisar las flores”.
La marcha fue seguida por agentes de civil y las y los manifestantes fotografiados. Veinte años después, muchos de aquellos jóvenes agrupados en la Generación 83, reclamaron y obtuvieron aquellos documentos (se pueden ver diez de estas fotos en la barra lateral de este blog). Fue la primera vez que se hicieron públicos materiales de inteligencia que, hasta entonces se decía, no existían.
